Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant
I thought I had purchased a Groupon for Local’s Corner. I really like that place. We went there for brunch only to learn that my Groupon was for Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant!! Fortunately for us, there was a Sunday Giants game, so we decided to head to Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant for yet another meal. And coincidentally, as I began to write this review, Zagat delivered reasons to head back to Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant to add some zest to my review.
The space near 1st and Folsom is really nice and industrial looking with tables around the edges and great bar-high communal tables. The kitchen is open with places to eat at the kitchen bar and watch the action.
We ordered the Huevos Rancheros to eat at Local Kitchen and their special New York Steak and Eggs to take to the ballpark for later. The ingredients were really fresh and the tastes blended nicely in both dishes.
When I went to take pictures of the bar, the Bar Manager, Victoria D’Amato-Motan, was curious. I told her about my blog, and she invited us to taste one of her artisan cocktails. Because of my love of Elijah Craig bourbon, I chose the 12 – a blend of 12-year Elijah Craig, 12-year Dictador Rum, Cocchi di Torino Vermouth and Lemon Honey Shrub. Not too sweet and oh so flavorful. Victoria explained that she has been a barkeep for 22 years. Victoria is branching out with her spirit syrups company, Centani (an Italian toast to health), and I wish her the best of luck. Turns out Victoria grew up with my buddy, Guy, in North Beach. Victoria invited us back for the Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant’s food and cocktail pairing, which is at the top of my list.
The service at Local Kitchen is outstanding. We got to meet the manager, and I hope my hub gets to have one of his company dinners there in the beautiful Wine Merchant area. Head to Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant. You will enjoy every bit of this wonderful restaurant.
