Gramercy Tavern -NYC
It was Dave’s birthday when we were in New York last week. We had no idea sitting at lunch on Saturday at a restaurant that we would get some of the last seats available Sunday morning back home through Portland. Dave loves Gramercy Tavern, so we walked from our Midtown hotel down to 20th and Madison to take in Danny Meyer’s classic offerings. We figured we’d have a light dinner cheering on what is now our World Champion San Francisco Giants, so we went for it at Gramercy Tavern. Gramercy Tavern is one of New York City’s best restaurants.
The environment is so wonderful at Gramercy Tavern, one of the top-rated restaurants in New York City. We started with a lovely chicken mousse with bread toasts and pickled veggies. The mushroom and calamari salad was really interesting in that it combined chewy, umami tastes.
We shared two comparable dishes as the main course. The sausage was extra spicy and perfectly cooked, accompanied by schnitzel and sauerkraut. The dollop of mustard worked with everything. Pulled pork came came as a deconstructed pot pie, separating the vegetables, adding some pickled ones, the pulled pork and the cornbread ‘top’. Gramercy Tavern’s food is always delicious!! We even found a delightful Hirsch Pinot Noir, right from our Sonoma Coast backyard.
