SFLG Weekly Hot Tips

Weekly Hot Tips – June 2

Here comes this week’s edition of Weekly Hot Tips – June 2.  Weekly Hot Tips is a compilation of the various newsletters and articles that I read throughout the week in an effort to keep up with what’s going on in this wild and crazy San Francisco food scene.  I’ll also cover Food and Wine and Activities.

San Francisco Restaurants

FoodQ Restaurant – It is with a heavy heart that Q Restaurant will close its doors on June 29 after 16 years.  RichmondSFBlog writes about the iconic neighborhood restaurant that will be sorely missed.  (OK, so my niece is the owner, so I’m a little sentimental.)

Cover is a new app that allows you to pay through your phone NEVER getting out your credit card.  Haven’t tried it yet.

EaterSF does a Heat Map of the 38 San Francisco restaurants you need to try.  It’s updated regularly.  Little did I know that they do a nationwide one as well, and Saison is on their list.

Porcetta?  Yum!!  And there’s plenty of it in San Francisco.  Yelp ranks their favorites here.

Chino is now open, by the folks at Tacolicious.  Urban Daddy shows off the joint here.

Zagat tells us about the best outdoor spots in the bay area here.  Hey, what happened to Mission Rock Resort?!?!?!?

Dine About Town is on until 6/15.  It’s a great way to try those restaurants on your list.  Lunch is $18.95, and dinner is $36.95, quite a deal for many of the restaurants on the list.  Tasting Table gives us the schedule and a nice website to find by area and cuisine here. 7×7 also reports.

According to UrbanDaddy, 4505 Meats has an off-the-menu Big Mac. It’s a double cheeseburger with a wedge of Frankaroni which is fried mac and cheese with hot dogs!!

Harper & Rye is open – a new watering hole in the Nob Hill area.  Read EaterSF’s description here.

Leaving town??  Thrillist rounds up great restaurants in Nor Cal and NOT in the Bay Area.

Kusakabe is now open in the Transamerica Building.  (I loved the Redwood Room and George Morrone when they were there!!)  Omakase is the way to go, and although it’s expensive, it’s not really for Omakase (which means chef’s choice is served for the eight courses).   Check out UrbanDaddy’s slideshow.

Food and Wine

CocktailsSummer Cocktails??  Tasting Table’s Jim Meehan gives us inspiration with new concoctions.

Ice Cream!?!?  EaterSF tells us of the top 15.

Another View from 1st and MarketCheck out Thrillist’s top 12 activities you need to participate in this summer.

You can train on a Dragon Boat in Foster City!!!  WeekendSherpa has all the info here.

Weekend Sherpa does a great job telling us about great weekend activities all over the bay.  Castle Rock State Park in Santa Cruz looks like a great way to spend the day.

CurbedSF, part of the Eater family, describes 25 sensational projects that are changing the face of San Francisco.  This isn’t really an activity, but it’s important to keep up with the happenings in our city.
