Weekly Hot Tips – June 9 is my compilation of all things hot, new and definitely worth a try.  This edition includes a coffee ‘heatmap’ with 15 new additions, 89 outdoor eating areas to choose from, and a few things to do or think about.  Enjoy!!

San Francisco Restaurants

4505 Meats adds a new restaurant, and Thrillist tells us that they have one of only three wood-burning smokers in the city!

Menu Keys Shows Ordering Food Dishes OnlineOakland is becoming its own food capital.  Low rents and increased safety are a few of the reasons.  Josh Sens of San Francisco Magazine lists his top 100.

Sustainably farmed abalone in Monterey!!  I missed this March 2014 article from the San Francisco Chronicle.  Definitely worth a trip.

In the mood to dine outside?  Thrillist maps out 89 patios to do just that.

Food and Wine

Ceviche is HOT, thanks to the arrivals of places like La Mar Cevicheria and La Costanera.   Tasting Table explains the trend and even gives us a scallop ceviche to try.

Pastrami Cheese Fries?!  Tasting Table discusses the trend from the likes of Wise Sons, and they even tell us how to make it at home.

And more on coffee!!  Thrillist outlines the 21 best coffee shops in America.  Only one in San Francisco – Saint Frank.

Trying to eat healthy but not in the mood to shop??  There are several choices available for you.  Munchery delivers hot meals from a number of chefs.  The choices are broad, and the food is REALLY good!  My friend, Michelle, uses Blue Apron.  Blue Apron does the planning, buying, recipes and delivery.   All you have to do is cook.  Gotta try this!!

ApricotsLynne Char Bennett of the San Francisco Chronicle says that apricots are in season now.  Lynne does a beautiful job discussing apricots and gives us some recipes that look fabulous.


Frisco!  Locals cringe at its sound.  Daisy Barringer of Thrillist dives in with incredible detail on how the name came about, and she tells us all to get over it!!

18 Reasons is on the coolest block in the city in the Valencia district, next to ByRite Ice Cream, and near Delfina, Tartine and Namu Gaji.  They have wonderful classes and walk-in meet-ups, among other things.  Check out their calendar here.

grapesWest of West Wine Festival.  I highly recommend this three-day event in Sebastopol from August 1 to 3 this year.  The Sonoma Coast Appellation is rapidly gaining in popularity, and this event and its food, wine and seminars will give you the knowledge you need to be an expert on the subject.  (Note that Stuart Brioza of State Bird Provisions will be there, too!!)
